BATON ROUGE is where ICON Yachts' custom story starts making sense. Introduced in 2010, she was the boat that proved the Dutch yard's 62-metre platform - Jouke van der Baan's naval architecture under lines by Tim Heywood, with Redman Whiteley Dixon handling the interior. Two sisters followed her: PARTY GIRL, completed in 2013, and ICON, the yard's first build, which was lengthened in 2009. Three hulls on one validated platform is exactly the kind of quiet track record that matters more in superyachting than any single launch party.
The designer roster deserves a pause. Tim Heywood's exteriors - Pelorus, Amevi, the A-list of modern superyacht profiles - are a rarefied club, and BATON ROUGE carries one of them at 62.50 m. His signature is visible in her balanced superstructure and the clean sweep of her sheer; she reads as one gesture rather than a stack of decks. Inside, RWD - a studio better known internationally for exteriors - shaped the guest spaces, an inversion of the usual credits that gives her interior a architectural discipline some decorator-led boats lack.
Dimensionally she is a true volume play: 62.50 m overall on an 11.40 m beam, drawing 3.70 m at full load. That beam-to-length ratio is what lets the platform sleep large parties in comfort - her sister PARTY GIRL pushes the identical envelope to seventeen guests - and it makes the main-deck spaces feel a size class up from her length.
The honest reservations are structural. The yard publishes no speed, range or engine figures for her, so performance has to be taken on the platform's reputation rather than the spec sheet. Her profile, however distinguished, is shared with two sisters. And 3.70 m of draught deserves a look at the chart before the shallowest Bahamian banks.
But the fundamentals are hard to argue with: a Heywood exterior, RWD interior and van der Baan engineering on a platform that ICON built three times because owners kept asking. As the original of the line, BATON ROUGE holds the bragging rights - and thirteen years on, the design has not dated a day.
