Methodology
The index is computed directly from live, publicly listed for-sale yachts on GetBoat. Medians (not averages) are used throughout, so a handful of megayachts cannot skew the figures. Only EUR-denominated listings enter the medians — mixing currencies would corrupt the percentiles — and any category or age band with fewer than 8 listings is omitted. Asking prices generally run about 10% above final transaction prices; treat the index as the market's asking level, not settled sale values.
Frequently asked questions
How is the GB Yacht Price Index calculated?
Each figure is the median asking price of live, publicly listed for-sale yachts on GetBoat, computed over EUR listings only so currencies are never mixed. Price-per-foot divides the asking price by the hull length in feet. Segments with fewer than 8 listings are suppressed as statistically thin.
How often is the index updated?
The underlying aggregates are recomputed from the live catalog at least every 12 hours, and the page republishes the fresh numbers automatically.
Why price per foot?
Price per foot normalizes yachts of different sizes onto one scale, making categories and age bands comparable. It is the same yardstick professional brokers use for quick market positioning.
Do asking prices equal sale prices?
No. Asking prices typically run roughly 10% above final transaction prices. The index tracks asking levels, which lead the market and are observable at scale.
