Ferretti Group brands

Since 1994, Monaco-based Wally has pushed carbon fiber construction and minimalist, push-button deck design into large sailing yachts and motor yachts. Founder Luca Bassani still leads the brand's design work, now under Ferretti Group ownership.

Luca Bassani and the first Wallys

The name arrived before the company. Bassani's first Wallygator, a 25 meter sloop, launched in 1991, and when he founded Wally in 1994 a second, larger Wallygator followed: a 32 meter ketch with push-button hydraulic sail handling and carbon fiber sails. Its open, uncluttered deck became the Wally signature. Both early boats survive: the first sold in 1993 and sails on as Mr Gecko, while the ketch is now Nariida. The brand was an early adopter of carbon fiber in yacht construction, and after a run of sailing yachts it moved into motor yachts, most visibly with the angular 118 wallypower.

Ferretti Group ownership and current lines

Ferretti Group, whose brands include Ferretti Yachts, Custom Line, and Itama, bought 75 percent of Wally's parent company in January 2019 and later took full ownership. Bassani stayed to lead design and development, and the brand keeps its headquarters in Monaco. Current lines cover both sides of the house: wallywind sailing yachts, the wallyrocket racer, and the small wallynano under sail; wallytender and wallypower dayboats and wallywhy motor yachts under power.

Wallys for charter and sale

Wallys come up for charter as well as for purchase. GetBoat's Wally listings run from the wallynano sailing yacht to the wallywhy200 motor yacht, covering both sides of the market. Early sailing Wallys from the 1990s remain in commission alongside the current lines.
