★ 4.1MICLA'S IIIA stylish, fast-planing Italian motor yacht with strong heritage appeal, the Riva 72 Splendida still looks sharp and delivers lively cruising. Its 3-cabin, 6-guest layout is well suited to private use, though value depends heavily on condition and refit quality for a 2000 build.Read review →Riva is an Italian boat and yacht builder with origins in Sarnico, on Lake Iseo in Lombardy. The company traces its history to 1842, when Pietro Riva started a boatyard there, and it is now part of the Ferretti Group. Riva builds motorboats and motor yachts, and its name is closely associated with luxury runabouts and performance boats.
History and shipyard
The Riva boatyard began in 1842 in Sarnico, Italy, after Pietro Riva established a repair and boatbuilding business on Lake Iseo. The company remained in family hands for several generations, with Ernesto Riva advancing the yard through the introduction of internal-combustion engines and Serafino Riva shifting production toward motorboats after World War I. In the 1950s, Carlo Riva transformed the brand into an internationally recognized name in luxury boating. Riva was acquired by the Ferretti Group in 2000.
Models and design identity
Riva became known for elegant, high-performance motorboats and yachts, especially its wooden runabouts and later fiberglass models. During the 1920s and 1930s, its racing boats won competitions and helped establish the brand’s sporting reputation. The 1950s and 1960s produced some of its best-known designs, including the Aquarama family, while 1969 marked the start of fiberglass construction. Today, Riva continues to produce motor yachts that emphasize Italian styling, craftsmanship, and strong brand heritage.
