The Lagoon 42 is a French-built catamaran designed by Van Peteghem/Lauriot-Prevost, first produced in 1990 and discontinued in 1994. Its design emphasizes comfort and ease of use, with a wide beam (22.67 ft), generous headroom (6.25 ft), and flexible cabin layouts ranging from 3 to 4. The owner’s version offers a private queen berth with walk-around sides, a desk, and a large head with a separate shower, making it ideal for long-term cruising or charter use.

On the water, the Lagoon 42 performs well for its weight and size, accelerating nicely in gusts and maintaining 5–7 knots in gentle breezes and 8–9 knots in moderate winds. With a gennaker, it can reach speeds in the low teens. Its twin Yanmar engines (standard 45 HP, optional 57 HP) provide reliable motoring at 7–8 knots. Maneuverability is excellent, with no need for a bow thruster, and sail handling is effortless thanks to electric winches and a self-tacking jib.

Comfort and livability are standout features, with broad hulls offering full queen aft berths, ample storage, and standing headroom throughout. The raised helm station functions as a full control center, and the sailplan offers versatility from close reach to full run. While not a speed-focused vessel, its stable platform and spacious interior make it a top choice for relaxed cruising. Though out of production, its solid build quality and enduring reputation support its value in the used market.
