About this boat
Maid Marion is a beautifully preserved Cornish fishing lugger built in 1925 by the renowned boatbuilder Percy Mitchell of Mevagissey. This 40-foot (12.2m) wooden vessel, registered as PZ 61 in Penzance, stands as a testament to early 20th-century maritime craftsmanship and Cornish fishing heritage.

Originally named Westward Ho, the boat was renamed Maid Marion in 1935 when sold to John Orchard of Porthleven. She is a famous Dunkirk Little Ship, having participated in Dunkirk reunions and pleasure trips along the East Coast, sometimes reaching France and Holland. Today, she remains based on the River Deben in Suffolk, maintained in carvel construction with a Ford 58 hp diesel engine.
