Welcome to Museumshafen Flensburg, a captivating harbor museum nestled along the western side of the picturesque Flensburg Fjord in Germany. Operated with passion by volunteers since 1979, this isn't just a museum; it’s a living testament to Flensburg's rich maritime history and a fantastic starting point for your nautical adventure.
The Museumshafen boasts a remarkable collection of beautifully preserved historic commercial sailing vessels moored along a traditional wooden pier. It’s a place where the whispers of past voyages linger in every breeze, offering a unique glimpse into the golden age of seafaring. Among its prized possessions is the 1931-built hai cutter Dagmar Aaen, famously used by explorer Arved Fuchs to conquer both the Northeast and Northwest Passages.
In 1991, a faithful replica of the original Flensburg harbor crane (dating from 1726-1889) was erected at the pier's end, adding another layer of historical authenticity. Adjacent to the museum is the Museumswerft (museum shipyard), established in 2001, where you can witness traditional shipbuilding techniques firsthand.
