Introduction to Caló de s’Estaka: A Secluded Paradise

Caló de s’Estaka is a tiny, secluded pebble‑and‑gravel cove on the northwest coast of Mallorca, nestled into the Serra de Tramuntana near the historic town of Valldemossa. Measuring roughly 20-30 meters in length and 5-8 meters in width, this un-serviced beach offers a tranquil escape best enjoyed from late spring through early autumn (May-September). During these months, the Mediterranean climate delivers warm, calm seas perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Boat operators from Palma’s Marina La Lonja provide convenient half-day catamaran or sail-boat trips that often include guided snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, and a light tapas lunch.

The cove boasts a unique history dating back to the late 19th century when Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria acquired the S’Estaca estate. He built a small fishermen’s village and transformed what was once a smuggler's hideout for tobacco from Algiers into a peaceful haven.
