Expert reviews of Oceanco boats
The Dutch yard Oceanco specializes in fully custom superyachts of 80 meters and more, built in Alblasserdam since the company's founding in 1987. It builds no series models; every project is a one off. The fleet includes the sailing yacht Black Pearl along with Bravo Eugenia, DAR, and KAOS, and since August 2025 the yard has belonged to Valve founder Gabe Newell.
Custom superyacht building in Alblasserdam
Oceanco has operated from Alblasserdam, near Rotterdam, since 1987, and its facility can work on several superyachts of up to 150 meters at the same time. Output concentrates on full displacement yachts of 80 meters and up, developed to individual owner briefs. From 2010 the company belonged to Omani businessman Mohammed Al Barwani, whose family sold it after fifteen years of ownership.
Gabe Newell's ownership since 2025
Gabe Newell, founder of the video game company Valve and a longtime supporter of the yard, acquired the Oceanco Group on August 1, 2025. The group has since added Alewijnse, a Dutch electrical systems integrator, and Newell took delivery of his own Oceanco, the 364 foot Leviathan, in November 2025. Newell has said he wants the yard to keep doing what it already does well.
Buying or chartering an Oceanco
Oceanco delivers a small number of very large projects rather than production runs, so listings are rare and yachts of this size run with full professional crews. When Oceanco superyachts do come to market for charter or sale, GetBoat lists them.
