Leopard Catamarans is a South African builder of sailing and power catamarans. The brand is built by Robertson & Caine, a shipyard founded in Cape Town in 1991 by John Robertson and Jerry Caine. The Leopard brand was established for the private market after the yard’s work for The Moorings charter fleet.
Robertson & Caine began in Woodstock, a suburb of Cape Town, and initially developed boats for charter use before expanding into private ownership models. The Leopard brand was established in the late 1990s and is closely tied to The Moorings partnership that helped define the company’s early production. Leopard’s own company material says the yard has developed 26 models and built more than 3,500 sailing and power catamarans. The builder is commonly identified as one of the major catamaran manufacturers in South Africa.
Leopard’s range has included sailing catamarans and power catamarans, with models such as the Leopard 44, Leopard 45, Leopard 48, Leopard 50 and Leopard 42 appearing in the brand’s history. The company’s boats are aimed at cruising and charter use, with layouts developed from the needs of the charter market and later adapted for private owners. The brand is known for producing ocean-going multihulls, and its production has been concentrated at the Robertson & Caine shipyard in Cape Town. The line has also included power-catamaran models alongside its sailing range.
