★ 4.2Elan Impression 45A roomy, charter-friendly cruiser with easy manners, strong livability, and solid everyday performance. It is not a racer, but it offers a well-balanced mix of comfort, practical handling, and value for crews prioritizing space over outright speed.Read review →
★ 4.2ELAN 37The Elan 37 Performance is a well-balanced cruiser-racer: sharp-looking, lively under sail, and more practical inside than its performance focus suggests. It suits owners who want a capable family cruiser that can also be campaigned, though its comfort is good rather than plush and age-dependent condition matters.Read review →Elan is a Slovenian boat and yacht builder based in Begunje na Gorenjskem, near Lake Bled. The company began in 1945 as a ski and sports-equipment maker and entered boatbuilding in 1949 with wooden boats, kayaks, and canoes. It later expanded into sailboats and motor yachts, and became known for advanced composite construction.
Elan was founded in 1945 by Rudi Finžgar in Slovenia and started as a workshop for skis and sporting equipment. The company moved into marine production in 1949, first building kayaks, canoes, and small wooden boats. By the 1950s it was exporting small craft, including to the United States. Elan is closely associated with Begunje na Gorenjskem, where its boating operations developed alongside its wider sporting-goods business. In the 1960s it adopted polyester and glass-reinforced composite construction, which marked a major technical shift in its boatbuilding.
Elan has built a range of sailing yachts and, later, motor yachts. Its sailboat output grew from small craft into cruiser-racers and larger cruising yachts, and the brand is linked with models such as the Impression line and performance-oriented designs. The yard became known for applying composite technologies early and for working with outside naval architects, including J&J Design and Rob Humphreys. In the 2000s, Elan also developed motor-yacht production and continued refining its use of advanced infusion and composite methods.
