Catana

Catana is a French catamaran builder founded in 1984, originally in Cogolin, near Saint-Tropez. The company later expanded its operations to Canet-en-Roussillon, France, and became part of Catana Group under Olivier Poncin. Catana builds sailing catamarans, with a reputation centered on performance-oriented cruising multihulls.

Catana began in 1984 with the first Catana catamaran, developed by Jean-Pierre Prade and Thierry Goyard with designer Lock Crowther. Early production was based in Cogolin, in southern France, before the brand expanded its industrial base to Canet-en-Roussillon. In 2003, Olivier Poncin acquired the Catana brand, and the business later became Catana Group. The group has since grown into a major multihull manufacturer with multiple production sites and a broader brand portfolio.

Catana is focused on sailing catamarans, especially cruising models built with an emphasis on speed, seaworthiness, and lightweight construction. The brand’s history includes well-known models such as the Catana 42, Catana 44, Catana 47, Catana 50, Catana 55, Catana 58, and Catana 59. Catana also became the technical and commercial base from which the Bali catamaran line was later developed. The brand is closely associated with performance-oriented blue-water multihulls rather than monohull yachts or motorboats.
