Canados is an Italian yacht builder based in Rome, near Fiumicino and the Tiber River area of Ostia. Founded in 1946, the shipyard first built patrol and military boats before moving into recreational yachts. It has delivered more than 800 yachts and continues to build motor yachts in composite construction.

History and shipyard

Canados began in 1946 on a former hydroplane base in Rome, where master carpenters formed a cooperative whose name comes from Cantieri Navali di Ostia. The yard’s first customers were the Italian Navy, coastguard, and harbor masters. A turning point came in 1953, when a Middle Eastern royal family representative asked the shipyard to build a yacht after seeing its patrol boats. That request led Canados toward private yacht construction and helped establish its international reputation.

Model range and build

Canados builds luxury motor yachts, including open, flybridge, and semi-custom composite models. Publicly listed ranges include the Gladiator line, the Oceanic line, and the namesake Canados series, with examples such as the Canados 86, Canados 90, and 50 Fly. The yard has been associated with in-house design and advanced construction methods, including composite materials and vacuum infusion. Its production history includes both pleasure yachts and earlier military and patrol craft.
