Bruno Abbate was an Italian boat builder associated with the Primatist brand and the Lake Como boating tradition. He founded his own yard in 1978 and became known for fast fiberglass powerboats and offshore sports boats. His family’s boat-building roots on Lake Como date back to the 19th century.
The Abbate family name is tied to boatbuilding on Lake Como, with roots recorded as far back as 1873. Bruno Abbate created the Bruno Abbate for Primatist brand in the late 1970s and shifted production toward fiberglass construction. Sources place the business in Grandola ed Uniti, near Lake Como, and later note expanded production facilities in Olbia and Arbatax in Sardinia. Abbate was also active in powerboat racing, which shaped the performance image of the brand.
Bruno Abbate’s best-known boats carry the Primatist name and include performance-oriented open cruisers and offshore-style powerboats such as the Primatist G46, Primatist G41, Primatist G48, Primatist G50 Speedster and Primatist G53. Listings and broker descriptions show the range typically spans about 7 to 19 meters, with deep-V and planing hulls, inboard and inboard/outboard drives, and diesel or petrol power. The brand is especially associated with Italian design, high speed, and a strong offshore racing heritage.
