Bali Catamarans is a French catamaran brand of the Catana Group, launched in 2014. It builds cruising sailing catamarans at the group’s shipyard in Canet-en-Roussillon, on the French Mediterranean coast. The brand was created to offer a more spacious, more accessible line of multihulls than Catana’s performance-oriented yachts.
Origins and shipyard
Bali Catamarans was launched in 2014 by Catana Group under the leadership of Olivier Poncin. The brand grew out of Catana Group’s earlier multihull business, which had developed from the Catana shipyard acquired by Poncin in 2003. Catana Group says the first Bali model was the Bali 4.5, launched in September 2014, followed shortly by the Bali 4.3. Production is based in Canet-en-Roussillon, where the group says the shipyard now builds more than 300 boats a year.
Models and design
Bali is known for cruising catamarans that emphasize open living space and easy movement between interior and exterior areas. Catana Group describes the brand’s key ideas as a common space between the saloon and aft cockpit, a tilting door, and an integrated foredeck. The line began with mid-size sailing catamarans and expanded into larger models such as the Bali 5.4 and newer models including the Catsmart. The brand is positioned in the sailing multihull market rather than the high-performance blue-water niche of Catana.
