After a 20–30 minute boat ride across the turquoise waters on a traditional local wooden boat, you will arrive at Prison Island. Begin your visit at the giant Aldabra tortoise sanctuary, home to tortoises that are over 100 years old. Enjoy close encounters, take photos, and walk freely among these gentle giants. Next, explore the island’s historic prison and quarantine ruins, where your guide will share the history of the island and how it received its name. After the guided visit, enjoy free time to swim, relax on the small beach, or take photos. Guests who bring their own snorkel mask may explore the shallow reef near the shore (snorkeling equipment is not provided).
