About this boat
The OTAGO is named in homage to the writer and sailor Joseph Conrad, whose first (and only...) command at sea was a three-masted barque bearing that name.
Ours is much more modest and requires less adventurous sailing. It will nevertheless easily take you for day trips (theoretical maximum of 8 passengers, good comfort for 6 and less), or even for a short cruise of a few days (ideal then for two people, possibly accompanied by one or two children). Depending on my availability, I can go out with you if you wish to be accompanied (but only if you yourself have a license: see NB 2 below).
Launched in 2013 and carefully maintained, it is in very good condition and offers you in its 7 meters a double berth cabin with toilet, a convertible saloon with refrigerator, small sink and stove, a cockpit with shower, table and awning to shelter you from the sun or possible bad weather. Renters with very young children generally appreciate the security of its closed cabin. On the navigation side, you will have a GPS - depth sounder - GARMIN plotter and a VHF for your safety.
Ideally moored on a pontoon easily accessible to the port of Minimes, it opens the doors to the exceptional navigation site that are the pertuis with the islands of Ré, Aix and Oléron easily accessible for a day trip without rushing.
NB 1: I am not a professional rental company: I rent the family boat, which assumes a minimum relationship of trust, which is all the easier to establish since a request is not the fact of an anonymous profile with an unknown project. I will therefore not respond favorably to requests made under these conditions.
NB 2: I receive an increasing number of requests to accompany people who do not have a boat license. To avoid unnecessary exchanges, I would like to remind you that only a holder of a professional skipper qualification can legally take on board passengers without a license for a fee. Since I do not have one, I can only accompany a renter who, himself a license holder, will be skipper.
NB 3: I insist here, in light of experience, on the real capacities of the boat: eight passengers is a THEORETICAL maximum, which can be reached if you go out with children, but you would have no pleasure in going out with eight adults. You should look for a bigger boat if there are more than six adults.
NB 4: the Otago is a NON-SMOKING boat: besides the fact that it is not necessarily reasonable to smoke sitting on 200 liters of gasoline, this avoids burning the gel coat with incandescent ashes.
