The Lagoon 40 uses the brand’s signature cruising-catamaran approach: a broad beam, raised coachroof, and an interior focused on volume and visibility rather than aggressive styling. With an overall length around 38'6" to 41'10" depending on measurement method and a beam of 22'2", it offers a notably large living space for its size. The 2019 version was commonly delivered with layouts ranging from 6 to 12 berths, making it especially adaptable for private use or charter.
On the water, the Lagoon 40 is designed for easy cruising rather than outright speed. The standard sail plan includes a self-tacking jib and a modest mainsail area, which helps keep handling simple for short-handed crews. Its shallow draft is useful in coastal waters, but the tradeoff is that performance upwind is competent rather than exciting, and the boat is better suited to relaxed passage making than spirited sailing.
Comfort is the main strength. The wide hulls and generous beam translate into strong accommodation volume, good social space, and a layout that works well for family cruising or charter turnover. The boat’s market position also supports its value case: it offers a well-known platform with broad support, practical systems, and strong resale recognition, though buyers who prioritize sailing performance may find better alternatives in more performance-focused catamarans.
