Silverton is an American boat builder associated with New Jersey and the Luhrs family. The company was founded in 1969 by brothers John and Warren Luhrs and built fiberglass cruising motor yachts, including convertible, aft-cabin, sedan, and flybridge models. Silverton later became part of the Egg Harbor Group after ceasing independent operations in 2011.
Silverton was established in 1969 by John and Warren Luhrs, who bought an existing small builder and developed it into a known cruising-yacht brand. The company’s production base was in New Jersey, with references placing operations in Toms River earlier and later in Millville. Silverton grew out of the Luhrs family boatbuilding business and remained tied to that broader group through related brands such as Luhrs and Mainship. Independent operations ended in 2011, after financial pressure from the 2008 crisis and rising manufacturing costs.
Silverton focused on mid-size fiberglass motor yachts, especially family cruising boats in the 30- to 45-foot range. Its lineup included convertibles, aft-cabin yachts, sedan cruisers, and flybridge models, with the 34 Convertible among the best-known boats in the brand’s history. Silverton was also known for practical layout ideas such as the SideWalk system, introduced on the 453 Motor Yacht, which created a more direct side-deck access to the bow and flybridge areas. The brand appealed to owners seeking comfort, usable space, and moderate performance.
