A century of building on the Weser
Georg Abeking, a mechanical engineer, and the designer and racing sailor Henry Rasmussen opened the yard in 1907. For decades it produced wooden sailing yachts, motor yachts and patrol boats, and from 1928 it series-built Starling Burgess's Atlantic one-design. The last varnished wooden hull, the 11.4 meter sailing yacht Barbarella, left the yard in 1981, after which the company concentrated on superyachts. A later landmark is Hetairos, a 42 meter Bruce King ketch launched in 1993 with a cold-molded mahogany hull.
Superyachts, SWATH vessels and working ships
The modern yard pairs large custom yachts with commercial and government work: pilot boats, naval vessels and the SWATH@A&R series of twin-hull ships designed for stability in rough water, 25 of which have been delivered since 1999. The ARUBY line applies series production to yacht building. Refit and repair work runs alongside new construction.
