Leopard is a catamaran brand built by Robertson & Caine, a South African shipyard founded in 1991 in Woodstock, Cape Town. The Leopard name was established in 1997 and has been used for sailing and power catamarans built for cruising and charter use.

History and shipyard

Robertson & Caine began in 1991 as a boatyard in Woodstock, a suburb of Cape Town, founded by John Robertson and Jerry Caine. Leopard developed out of the company’s work for The Moorings charter fleet, with the brand established in 1997 after years of building catamarans for charter service. The builder says it has produced more than 3,500 sailing and power catamarans across 26 models, and the yard has expanded to multiple facilities in Cape Town.

Model range and design

Leopard is best known for ocean-going multihulls, especially cruising catamarans designed for private ownership and charter fleets. The range has included sailing catamarans and power catamarans, with models such as the Leopard 45, 46 PC, 51 PC and 53 PC appearing in the brand’s lineup. The builder’s background in the charter market shaped a practical design focus, with emphasis on space, durability and offshore capability rather than performance-racing specialization.
