Fjord

Fjord is a Norwegian boat builder founded in Arendal in 1960 as Fjord Plast by Alf Richard Bjercke with Finn B. Roer and designer Jan Herrmann Linge. The brand built motorboats and yachts in fiberglass composite and later became part of HanseYachts AG, with production moved to Germany after the acquisition. Fjord is now best known for its contemporary open powerboats and yacht tenders.

Fjord began in Norway in 1960, when Alf Richard Bjercke founded Fjord Plast in Arendal after being inspired by British and Mediterranean boats at a boat fair in Germany. Early development was shaped by Finn B. Roer and Jan Herrmann Linge, and the yard grew quickly during the 1960s as fiberglass boatbuilding expanded. The company later went through ownership changes, and HanseYachts acquired the brand in 2006, integrating it into the Hanse group and shifting production to Germany.

Fjord built a wide range of motorboats over its history, including early recreational models, motor sailors, and later modern open yachts. The brand gained renewed international attention with the Fjord 40 Open in 2008, a model widely associated with the company’s current style. Fjord’s recent identity is defined by clean exterior lines, open-deck layouts, and fiberglass construction, aimed at buyers who want high-speed day boats and luxury coastal cruisers.
