The 9th stage of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017/2018 in Cardiff is over in. The winner is Bouwe Bekking’s team Brunel, that has risen in the general score to the third place. The leader of the VOR Dongfeng lost the second position to AkzoNobel and took an honorable third place.

Becking after crossing the finish line said:

«We’re very happy with the result – to beat the two red boats (Dongfeng and MAPFRE) was the objective».

To win the 9th stage, Becking had to fight off the Dutch skipper Simeon Thienpont’s team AkzoNobel, that made a nominal gap of a couple of hundred meters just a few hours before the finish.
