The yacht "Maxim Gorky", according to legend belonged to Joseph Stalin, will be sold at auction in late February in Moscow.
The owner, the Moscow river shipping company, expects to receive 20 million rubles for the vessel, which subsidizing turns out to be expensive. At the moment, the yacht has a restaurant, which is part of the excursion program on "places associated with Maxim Gorky" in Nizhny Novgorod.
The main contenders for the purchase of the ship is the Azerbaijani Caspian shipping company and collectors from the US and the UK.
There are no reliable facts that Stalin himself once visited the ship. Up to the fifties of the 20th century the "Maxim Gorky" was a "luxury ship". Brezhnev, Beria, Khrushchev and other prominent politicians were guests on the yacht more than once. After 80 years in the sea and 4 years in operation it is necessary to revive the ship for a restaurant, like with the same name yacht "Grace".
