The Italian shipyard Fincantieri Yachts will build a 106-meter invisible yacht.
Designers Tracey-Jayne Canavaggio and Pieter van Geest have developed an exterior for the superyacht Mirage, that creates the effect of invisibility at a distance of more than 50 meters due to the panels of coloured mirrored glass. The panels are installed on the ship hull to refract the light and reflect the ship water. This is how the "disappearing effect" is created. Colored glass will also be used for interior decoration.
Pieter van Gest added, the design of the yacht took about a year. Its construction will take about three years. The designer commented on the idea of Mirage:
"Most yachts nowadays stand out and break the horizon or the landscape, in a way, we have tried to minimise this effect. The colour variable mirrored glass is developed by a German glass manufacturer, which has never been used on yachts before."
The project was presented at the Monaco yacht show. According to experts, the cost of the yacht will be about 220 million euros.
