The Rolex Sydney Hobart regatta will start on December 26. For the 74th time the race will take place on the route from Sydney (Australia) to Hobart (Tasmania).
About 92 teams from 10 countries - including Russia - will compete for the championship. Teams have to overcome 628 miles to reach the final destination. The day after Christmas, at 13:00 local time, the yachts depart from Sydney Harbour and head North to Tasmania Island. The route will not be easy. The first difficulties await the participants in the Bass Strait and on the Derwent.
It is known that Australia will be entirely represented by the women's team Ocean Respect Racing. Thirteen experienced crewmembers led by skipper Stacy Jackson will set sail on the 20-meter yacht Wild Oats X.
Stacy Jackson has revealed the mission of their team:
«To be able to sail with a fully professional all-female crew to Hobart is a wonderful opportunity and we are proud to work with non-professional female crews who have previously raced. Our crew will be training intensively in the lead up to Boxing Day and we are excited to sail to promote and encourage women in the sport, and to engage with the Australian public on ocean health issues that are affecting us daily, both locally and globally. We are working with the sailing community to educate ourselves, be proactive in mitigating our impact on the ocean, and to encourage others to think about ocean health and sustainability.»
The regatta in 2019 will be the anniversary for Rolex Sydney Hobart. The fleet of the 75th race is expected to be more than 135 vessels.
