From 10 to 13 January a team regatta was held in Monaco for young sailors. The Monaco yacht club has been holding team races for 10 years for participants under the age of 14 from all over the world.
16 teams from the leading yacht clubs of 16 countries took part in the "regatta without borders". Each team consisted of 4 people who competed on sailing boats.
Bernard d’Alessandri, general secretary of the Yacht Club Monaco, spoke about the purpose and positioning of the regatta:
"The event is at the heart of our vision to position the Principality as world capital of yachting and continues to develop, as evidenced by the international field this year from four continents. Four days of racing and sharing experiences around the values sport can bring to the new generation."
Optimist Team Race is for all its participants one of the most important stages of preparation for the European championship in the Optimist class.
«It’s important to educate children from a young age about the values of sport and the notion of peace through sport. Sport is universal and unites people of all ages and nationalities around a common goal: peace.”
The Russian team "Academics" from the Academy of sailing Yacht club of St. Petersburg under the leadership of Denis Razumovich also took part in the regatta, but they were not included in the top three winners.
The Winners of The Monaco Optimist Team Race 2019:
1st place: ARM Urla Sailing Club (Turkey)
2nd place: Yacht Club de Monaco (Monaco)
3rd place: KSSS – Royal Swedish Yacht Club (Sweden) and Team of USA.
