The sailing yacht Black Pearl ready for its first voyage. The peculiarity of the new 106-meter vessel is a 70-meters three DynaRig carbon masts, designed by the Dykstra Naval Architects. In the development of the project was attended by naval architects and designers of companies the Ken Freivokh Design, the Nuvolari-Lenard and the Villate Design.
Captain Chris Gartner noted:
"Recently, new-build clients have had less interest in sailing yachts, however, I think there will be a renewed interest once Black Pearl has demonstrated her sailing abilities and the world sees a beautiful superyacht sailing at 18 knots and using very little fossil fuel - especially with those clients who are seeking environmental sustainability and a reduction of their carbon footprint."
The Black Pearl is the largest sailing yacht in the world. A sail with an area of 2,900 square meters up in 7 minutes. The vessel has a hybrid power plant from BMT, which allows clear dispose of spent fuel. The yacht can operate on battery power for 4-5 hours, when the engines would be at full load.
Now the Black Pearl is in Rotterdam, waiting for favorable weather to make the first sailing.
